Two posts in one night!?

I know. Two posts in one night is a bit much but I had to share this with you.

When I was in India in June when Jaron died, I remember Sarah singing "It is Well With My Soul". I listened to the words and was overwhelmed at just how powerful those words were. Later in the summer, we were having a worship time and a hymn song was played. I remember thinking that I really wanted to get a hymnal so I can learn some of the old hymns. I haven't done that yet.

Tonight, I was singing along to a song on our Christian radio. I knew it only as "Glorious Day" by Casting Crowns. I posted some of the words to my Face Book page and found out that it is actually a remake of an old Hymn. A friend sent me the link to a website http://nethymnal.org/ This site has a really cool setup where at the top of the page of each Hymn, it tells a story behind the origin of the song. I scrolled through and found one that really grabbed me and wanted to share it.

The Hymn is titled "It Must Be Settled Tonight"

The story that went with this page is as follows: A miner in England went to Church one night and became deeply concerned for the salvation of his soul. When the services were ended he refused to leave the house, although the minister told him it was late, and he must go home and seek the Savior there, and come again the next night. “No,” said the miner, “It must be settled to-night, to-morrow night may be too late.” So the minister stayed with him until he found peace. The next day while at work in the mines a mass of rock fell on him, and he was killed. His last words were, “Thank God, it was settled last night, to-night it would have been too late.”

And here are the words to the song...

“It must be settled tonight,
Tomorrow may be too late”;
The angel of death may come,
And seal forever my fate.
It must be settled to-night,
I can no longer wait,
Peace with my God I now must have,
Tomorrow may be too late.

A burden weighs my soul
I can no longer bear;
Unless removed this night,
’Twill sink me into despair.
It must be settled to-night,
I can no longer wait,
Peace with my God I now must have,
Tomorrow may be too late.

I cannot rest till peace
Enfolds me from above,
Till my Redeemer speaks to me
Assurance of His love.
It must be settled to-night,
I can no longer wait,
Peace with my God I now must have,
Tomorrow may be too late.

Oh, now I know ’tis done!
My peace is made with God;
My pardon’s found in Jesus’ Name,
Thro’ faith in Jesus’ blood.
Oh, now I know ’tis done!
Sweet joy pervades my soul;
Peace with my God I now have found;
His blood hath made me whole.

I for one, am so grateful for Jesus blood, for peace with God, for wholeness that can only be found in Him. May you also know this peace, the unfathomable depth of God's love for you. May you know Jesus as your Redeemer, Savior, and your very best friend.

  1. I hope you arrived safely and are rested. It was a pleasure to meet you, Erin. Thank you so much for bringing those things with you. I have some frozen milk to send to someone, and can't seem to get around to doing that - can't remember. I appreciated that you reminded me, and didn't let it slip, because I would have regretted not getting the chance to pass those things along. And I am particularly glad to know a "real person" from SCH, and to know that you understand the beautiful little girl behind the "stuff." :) Thank you.
